Music Memories: "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" by The Beatles

I have been waiting to post this.  "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" was developed as a concept album by The Beatles.  It was released on May 26, 1967.   Back in November 1995,during my senior year in high school, my dad picked me up and we went the mall. He asked if I wanted this album and I said "Yeahhhhh!"  I had the 1987 CD, and it has since been re released.
Now on to the CD track listing:

  1. Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
  2. With A Little Help From My Friends
  3. Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds
  4. Getting Better
  5. Fixing A Hole
  6. She's Leaving Home
  7. Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite!
  8. Within You Without You
  9. When I'm Sixty- Four
  10. Lovely Rita
  11. Good Morning Good Morning
  12. Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (reprise)
  13. A Day in the Life

Music Memories: "Load" by Metallica (7th year post)

"Load" By Metallica

This year marks the twentieth anniversary of the album "Load" by the band Metallica.  This album was controversial when it came out on June 4, 1996  .  Not only did Metallica infamously sport shorter hair on the back of the album cover, but the music was creativly different from the self titled "Metallica", released just five years before in 1991.  I consider it to be a mixed bag of music, much like the self titled "The Beatles" (White Album). The songs range from complicated pieces of rock and roll, gloomy ballads, and simple "country" songs.  Well thats enough of my rambling, here's the track list (strong language):

  1.  Ain't My Bitch
  2.  2X4
  3.  The House That Jack Built
  4.  Until It Sleeps
  5.  King Nothing
  6.  Hero Of The Day
  7.  Bleeding Me
  8.  Cure
  9.  Poor Twisted Me
  10.  Wasting My Hate
  11.  Mama Said
  12.  Thorn Within
  13.  Ronnie
  14.  The Outlaw Torn

Art Gallery: My disguise must be able to strike terror into thier hearts

Today is anniversary of Batman's debut in Detective Comics #27.  I read about it on Bubba Shelby's Toyriffic blog.  This drawing is from November of 2007, when I decided to emulate the old drawing styles.
There are a couple of mistakes and I will get around to coloring eventually.

Nostalgia Post: The Secret Flame Burns Bright And Still (Updated Links)

(Drawing from 2002, I can't find a better pic)

Tonight is the 20th anniversary of the short lived Dark Shadows revival. It was pure 90's... with fog and vampires that had big hair. A couple of years ago I could not get enough of it. But video was hard to come by, until Hulu and YouTube started showing it. It was also shown on Chiller, that horror/suspense channel. But back to '91... at the time I had not seen the original Dark Shadows, so this was all new to me. After the first half of the pilot was shown, I was hooked... I watched every episode( if it was not postponed by the news ). I started coming up with my own ideas for episodes after it went into hiatus, then cancelled. The cast was good, made me a fan of Ben Cross and especially the charming Joanna Going (look her up.. she's done alot.. movies.. TV..) It also featured a pre Highlander Adrian Paul.   Roy Thinnes made a good villian as Reverend Trask  in a time travel story (like Jerry Lacey in the original 1966-71 series.. good acting). Watching reruns made me a fan of Julianna McCarthy and Stephan Gierasch. Watching the original 1966-1971 version put the revival in perspective. Too bad the 1991 version was cancelled. Some might find it over the top, but it was made for prime time in the 1990's.

Wikipedia has an entry here
and a news blog.

Halloween Post: A special presentation

{For those of you with epilepsy or risk of seizures. If these lights bother you, please do not view}
This is the video I wanted to post for a long time, A replica of my dad's blinking pumpkin set-up.

My brother noted this was the correct set as he could remember it. ( Minus the porcelain cat or porcelain Jack-O-Lantern).

Halloween Post: Part 2

This is the full sleeve of the 1979 remake of Chilling, Thrilling Sounds of The Haunted House.
This time the record is more serious featuring a dungeon and an encounter with who we presume to be Jack The Ripper. There is no narration on this LP and the tracks fade from one to the next. The monster sound in the track "The Haunted House" sounds like the monster from "The Haunted Castle" with Vincent Price. Most think this follow up is inferior, though I am not one of them. I manipulated the image to add a jaw to the skeleton and brightened the lightning .
If anyone knows if I would get in trouble from posting a track from the two records on this blog, I would like to know.

Halloween Post: Never to return....

This is a special post. Chilling, Thrilling Sounds Of The Haunted House was released by Disneyland records in 1964 and re-released in a different sleeve in the 1970's. Many bloggers have posted this before. Most people have probably heard sounds from this record at on time or another from the catfight sounds to the howling shriek taken from the classic "Lonesome Ghosts". Some claim to be too timid to sit through the opening track "The Haunted House" with it's thunder and screams. This presentation is a manipulation of the cover I edited with photo software to make the lightning glow and window shine.

Halloween Post: Not Retro, but Still Fun

In continuation of a mini Dracula theme, this next exhibit is a retro style face mask that I bought from Walgreens in 2005. The other styles were
*pumpkin
*witch
*skull
*Frankenstein's monster
*I think there also was a devil mask.
Though these masks are foam instead of PVC.
I also repainted this mask to my liking.
